The Screen refers to the often static background image that appears on the monitor screen representing areas or locations.

In the earlier games the lands are divided into areas made up individual locations which fit on the screen. Sometimes areas may take up more than screen can display can be seen on the monitor screen. These are shown as a single long scrolling screens such as in QFGV, or the alleys in QFG2. Scrolling occasionally occurs in earlier games but only between two or more individual screens.

The difference between early scrolling methods and QFG5 is that in earlier games scrolling only occurs when the the Player Character reaches the edge of the screen and the next screen loads. In QFGV the camera actively tracks the player scrolling as he moves across the area.

A "screen" can be used as a descriptor for directions (as a kind of unit of measurement). As the number of screens between two or more areas can be described. QFG2 plays with the use of "Screen" as a form of measurement by using a pseudo-Arabic term "Skareen" to represent "screen length". This term is only relevant to a few puzzles in QFG2 in the desert, and not used anywhere else. It is irrelevant in the cities that use pseudo-3d scrolling in the streets and alleys. The technical term for most areas still remains "screen" in the instructions and manuals for most of the series, including QFG2
