Mngoje (Swahili for "guard") is a Simbani elder who acts as the day-shift watchman for the Simbani village. The hero is introduced to Mngoje by Rakeesh when they arrive at the village.

Watching the hero and Yesufu's warrior initiation brings back his memories of his own warrior initiation, wherein he pulled on a rope held by his opponent and ended up dragging his opponent into a mud pit in doing so. Dialogue with the night-shift watchman Usiku indicates that Usiku might have been his opponent.
