Khaveen led the guards of Raseir in the service of Ad Avis and was the secondary antagonist of Quest for Glory 2.

Background

When Ad Avis deposed Emir Arus al-Din and occupied Raseir, Khaveen was placed in command of the Raseirian Guard. Harboring a deep hatred for the Katta, he gave an edict that forced them out of the city at once; all those who did not comply were presumably imprisoned in the dungeons or killed.

The quality of life in Raseir declined as the magical well-spring that kept the city alive stopped flowing, and Khaveen held a state-regulated water distribution to hold the citizens at his mercy. Those left behind were kept under his iron grip by his ruthless guards.

Khaveen took whatever he wanted and had a convincing replica of the Black Bird statue in his home. He also intended to force the Emir's daughter Zayishah to marry him before she escaped the city.

Khaveen first met the Hero when the later arrived in Raseir by caravan. The Guard Captain rudely and violently interrogated the Hero, asking his business and demanding his documentation. Khaveen gave the Hero a Visa when it was found he had none. The following day, the Hero witnessed Ugarte being arrested by Khaveen for water smuggling, an event which Ferrari stated took place to send the Hero a message. Those possessing Thief skills are offered the same night by Ferrari to attempt stealing the fabled Black Bird from Khaveen's House. It was revealed afterwards however, that the bird statue was, in reality, a fake. Regardless, the following morning Khaveen waited outside of the Blue Parrot Inn to arrest the hero and throw him in the dungeons.

Soon after howerver, Sharaf and the Raseir Underground began an uprising and stormed the Raseir Palace. It was the same time when Ad Avis was performing some sort of ritual. Khaveen was in the ceremony room, angry that he had to stay inside and guard him, and gave orders to the Guards.

Fate

  • The Fighter will meet and fight him before confronting Ad Avis. During the fight, Khaveen loses his sword. The Hero must give it back to him as an act of Honor. Nonetheless, Khaveen finds defeat by the Hero's sword.
  • The Wizard will Calm him, causing Khaveen to lose interest in his post, and wander away. Later, he will enter the ritual tower while Ad Avis and the Hero are dueling, and his master's transformative spell will bounce off of the Wizard's Reversal spell and strike Khaveen, turning him into a snake.
  • The Thief doesn't meet Khaveen at all while confronting Ad Avis, and his fate is left ambiguous.

Titles

  • Captain of the Raseirian Guard

Behind the scenes

  • Khaveen is named after Rick Cavin, the head of Trial by Fire production.
  • In QFG2 Khaveen's fate can be seen only in the Fighter and Wizard paths.
  • The Thief can sneak into Khaveen's bed chamber while he is sleeping. If the Thief is careless, Khaveen can wake up; even if he doesn't detect the Thief, the second time will be fatal as he will call the guards.
  • During the break-in, the Thief might attempt to attack or assissinate Khaveen, but this will result in a game over.
  • A character, Fighter (or a Hybrid who has a Shield) can confront Khaveen and he will fight with him. If the player (typically a Wizard) confronts him, Khaveen instead will summon the guards, resulting to game over. The game engine determines Khaveen's reaction according to whether the player has a Shield (Fighter) or not (Wizard); this can bring a dead end if the Fighter, for any reason, has dropped his shield.
  • When the player (typically the Fighter) fights with Khaveen, there is a point where he will be unarmed, and Khaveen will command him to yield; in that case the player must take the sword back. Later the player will disarm Khaveen. However it is possible, especially if the character is strong, to kill Khaveen fast, before these events happen.
  • Injuring Khaveen unarmed will prevent the player from becoming a Paladin. However offering him his sword back, will grant 7 Paladin Points
  • Once killed Khaveen, it is possible to search body; at first He Who Waits Behind will warn the Hero that there is no time; if the Hero insists, he will find the key to Khaveen's treasury, but it will be too late.
