Gaul is a land in the world of Glorianna that lies west of Germany, north of Hesperia, and to the south of the Isle of Gramarye and Albion. It includes lands such as Belgium (and France).

Background[]

The greatest thief in Gaul, "The Mouse", gave the Famous Adventurer a stealth charm. He later retired to take up falconry.

A land within this region (France) is famous for its French restaurants and the French Foreign Legion that sends expeditions as far south as Tarna.

It is the location of Versailles and Notre Dame. The Maginot line borders eastern edge of Gaul between Germany built in response to World War I.

The Michelin Guide is published somewhere in Gaul.

Belgium lies in southeastern Gaul.

The native and state language is French.

Behind the scenes[]

Gaul, The Mouse, and references to falconry are all references to the movie Ladyhawke.

Gaul was a region of western Europe during the Iron Age and Roman era, encompassing present day France, Luxembourg and Belgium, most of Switzerland, the western part of Northern Italy, Netherlands and Germany on the west bank of the Rhine.

There are indirect references to France in previous Quest for Glory games through the use of the term "French". However, it is unknown if France and Gaul are alternate names for the same location, or if France is a kingdom occupying parts of Gaul in western Europe. The people from Gaul are described as either Gallic, or the Gauls.
